good and evil

Good and Evil, Positive and Nagative

“Life on Earth is a combination of good and evil, happiness and suffering, love and hate. The life of a man contains contains great lessons about good, bad, love, and hatred, for which he pays dearly. Be glad when you come across evil, be glad when you come across good. Be glad that people die, and be glad that people are born. Death comes to changes one’s old and worn-down cloth with a new one. Evil comes to teach you a lesson.

“Holding on to evil thoughts and negative feelings in you will surely bring you a disaster or disease. By holding on to negative thoughts and negative feelings, you attract the negative powers of the world.

“One achieves good results when he works in good disposition of his spirit. Divine consciousness works in man when he is in good disposition.

“A thousand years is not enough to achieve something, if you ever achieve anything without working with love. … Act with love. There is no other power that can soften a man’s pride.” ~Biensa Douno

Good and Evil

Some people, and apparently some spiritual schools, believe that duality doesn’t exist. They say there is no good or evil. Everything is equal, everything is as it should be. This is the philosophy of sheep and fools. But it doesn’t surprise me that it is popular. Many governments, and their corporate sponsors, love nothing more than turning people into contented sheep. But believing this is saying that rape, murder, theft, etc. are acceptable. Sorry, but I have no respect whatsoever for anyone who accepts that as true.

Douno, like most sensible spiritual teachers, does accept that we live in a world of duality and good and evil coexist in it. But accepting that both exist, doesn’t mean we accept that both are equal, or that both should be embraced. There is no evil in heaven. We don’t create a heaven on earth by accepting it here. We don’t rise to higher levels of consciousness by allowing the lowest levels to control us.

Great Lessons

There is some value in evil deeds. Sometimes, the evil-doers of the world serve as excellent agents for karmic debt. That doesn’t excuse the evil they do. As Douno mentions, another way that evil serves a purpose is to teach us a lesson. How successfully it does that varies depending on the individual. Others say that good and evil must both exist in order for us to have free-choice. It also gives us a contrast between the two sides. This still does not make evil deeds and thoughts acceptable. We can’t pretend they don’t exist, but neither can we embrace them.

Birth and Death

Douno advises us to be glad that death happens, saying that death replaces the old with the new. While this is true, death of the old and worn out is necessary only in a realm where things and beings age and decay. That happens only in the material world, the realm of the Demiurge. Aging and decay don’t happen in spiritual realms. Thus there is no reason for death to exist there, so it doesn’t. So in the world of matter where good and evil both exist, we accept that death is necessary. Yet we also accept that it shouldn’t be that way and when this world is transformed back into spirit, all death will end.

Dueling Duality

Not all cases of duality can truly be considered as good and evil. Male and female are both necessary for the reproduction of humans and most other lifeforms on Earth. Yet such reproduction is only necessary because life in the material universe is temporary, and therefore might be considered mildly evil. And bathing in extremely hot water is uncomfortable, if not dangerous. The same for very cold water. So we mix some cold with the hot to get a good temperature for bathing. So male and female, hot and cold, might be considered examples of duality that are not a good and evil pairing.

Negative Thoughts

Douno advises that clinging to negative thoughts and feelings leads to disaster or disease. While that may be an extreme version of it, there can be little doubt that negative thoughts and feelings lead to irrational decisions. And irrational decisions are rarely good ones.

Worrying

While some might argue that sometimes worry can be a positive emotion, there is little doubt that it is usually a negative one. On the scale of good and evil, it definitely falls on the evil side. I’ve known people who would worry so much about things that were not true, and over which they had no control anyway, that they made themselves physically ill. I know in my own case, my blood pressure always goes up when I go to the doctors because I worry that the doctor will find something seriously wrong. If I could go into the doctor’s office with an attitude that I will be congratulated for doing such a good job of maintaining my health, my blood pressure would stay low.

Fear

Fear is another negative emotion that is very common and incredibly harmful. Not only can fear, like worry, raise your blood pressure, affect your digestion, or otherwise harm your physical health, It will cause many irrational decisions. Sadly, in the United States now, we are witnessing this with a president and his staff that encourage fear to divide and conquer. This puts fear way over to the evil side of the good and evil scale. For more on fear, check this older post about Fear of Death.

Change for Good

The good news is that we do have the ability to rid ourselves of negative feelings and thoughts. There are many methods of doing this, and I’m not going to go deeply into any of them. There are plenty of books that can help if needed.

Visualizing is one popular way of making a change. That can include getting your attitudes over to the good side of the good and evil scale. If you find yourself worrying about something, you simply close your eyes and visualize a solution. For example, if you are worried about being able to pay a bill, visualize yourself making the payment without thinking about where the money will come from. That may or may not work, but it is worth a try. But you can’t just visualize it, you have to believe it when you do.

Spiritual Good and Evil

Yes, there is good and evil involved in spiritual growth. First, there are evil spirits. Whether you call them demons, devils, or negative forces doesn’t matter. That they exist and like to encourage us to do evil does matter. So we have to be on guard for this and be sure we are not making decisions based on negative thoughts or suggestions from those evil spirits. And at the end of each day, consider everything we did that day and consider how we could have done better. Even if we are already on the good side of the good and evil scale, we can always do better.

Father's Light

Father’s Light That Awakens and Illuminates

Song 1: My Father Evoked Holy Fire

“My father the pleasured light,
the pleasured light, the glory,
my father the pleasured light,
the pleasure, the holy light,
my father the pleasured light,
the pleasure,
the esteemed light.

He summoned the aeons of light,
he chose them to enjoy his greatness.
He summoned the aeons of peace in whom no flaw or loss lives.
He summoned the aeons of light
and his sons in whom he put the aeons.
He summoned the aeons of peace.
He called his wealth,
set it in them.

He summoned the aeons to repose.
He called his angels,
set it in them.
He founded places for life.
He set living icons in them.
He set living icons in them,
which never disappear. …

“I couldn’t see where the son of evil saw them.
I stood up, saying,
I want to be like them.
Where did the son of evil see them?
Did the poor one own nothing?
No diamonds are in his possession,
no eternity in his estate. …

“A son of light looked down from high and saw him.
He said to rich brethren,
O my brethren,
sons of light in whom no flaw or loss lives,
I looked down into the abyss.
I saw the evil one,
the son of evil.
I saw the evil one, the son of evil,
who wanted to get into war.
I saw his seven companions too
and his twelve helpers.
I saw their tent pitched and a roaring fire in it.” ~The Coptic Manichaean Songbook

Father’s Light and Fire

In the ancient world, fire was used to provide light. As a result, when they said fire, they may have meant light. For example, the famous pillar of fire that led Moses was probably a pillar of light.

So the Father’s light is the spiritual light that comes from God. It may come to us through the stars and, primarily, the spiritual sun, but it originates with God. This is not the ordinary light of the physical world, although that light also has benefits on the physical level. It is a higher light, of a higher frequency and a higher level of consciousness.

Aeons of Light

Aeons (or eons) generally refer to a measurement of time. Specifically, a very long period of time, also known as an age. I believe this Manichaean song is using the word to mean something different. I think in this case, it means an arc angel or some similar high-level spiritual being. The song alternates between referencing Aeons of Light and Aeons of Peace. I believe they are the same beings. A being of light is automatically a being of peace. An angry, violent being is never a being of light.

Son of Evil

The singer of the song, whoever that might be, says he couldn’t see where the son of evil say them. It is not clear who he means by “them,” but I think it is the angels or Aeons mentioned previously. The singer says he wants to be like them. This would certainly make sense if he was talking about the angels, or Beings of Light.

But then the singer remarks on the poverty of someone. Poverty in a material sense, anyway. I think the singer is now referring to the Son of Evil. Yet the children of evil do have material possessions and plenty of them. So I think he is speaking in allegorical terms. Saying that he has no diamonds means that he has nothing of any great value. That is because material possessions have little value. Only spirit is permanent, so only spiritual things have true and lasting value. He Son of Evil once shared in the Father’s Light, but having fallen from truth, he could access that light no longer.

Son of Light

The sons of light did, of course, still bath in the Father’s Light. That id the only way to be a son or daughter of light.

The son of light in the song confesses that he has looked down into the abyss where he saw the son of evil. This tells us that the evil ones live in a place that the sons of light consider an abyss. An abyss is usually a deep hole or space. In this case, I think it means a lower dimension. A dimension which may only be one lower than the one the sons of light are in, but as far as they are concerned, it is far below them. Far below because it is mostly made of matter rather than spirit. It is also far below them because the Father’s light barely exists there.

Wanting War

When the son of light looked into the abyss at the son of evil, he saw that the son of evil and his helpers wanted war. Not war with each other, or with the sons of light. They are not foolish enough to fight each other. Nor would they attack the sons of light, knowing that would be a battle they could not possibly win. No, the evil ones plotted to cause wars among men, not each other.

One might assume that the sons of evil loved war and violence among humans simply because they were evil. Or perhaps because they found it great entertainment. While they may certainly have been part of it, there is something even more important.

Since the sons and daughters of darkness do not have access to the Father’s Light, they need another source of energy, another source of life. The source they use is blood, primarily human blood. The fairy tales of vampires and other dark beings that live off human blood are not entirely fantasies. They are based on the true tales of the children of evil who do live on blood.

A New Age

But the times are definitely changing. The Sun of Righteousness shines down upon us now. This spiritual sun brings more of the Father’s Light to us than ever before. It is easier now than ever for us to awaken. The bad news is that if we don’t all awaken soon, we will lose the opportunity. In this case, “soon” might mean ten years, or a hundred. No one on this level knows exactly. But it isn’t forever. So turn to the Father’s Light now.

understanding evil

Understanding Evil to Control it and Avoid it

“Is permanent happiness, secure prosperity, and abiding peace a foolish dream? No, there is a way, and I speak it with gladness, by which evil can be slain for ever; there is a process by which disease, poverty, or any adverse condition or circumstance can be put on one side never to return; there is a method by which a permanent prosperity can be secured, free from all fear of the return of adversity, and there is a practice by which unbroken and unending peace and bliss can be partaken of and realized. And the beginning of the way which leads to this glorious realization is the acquirement of a right understanding of the nature of evil. It is not sufficient to deny or ignore evil; it must be understood. It is not enough to pray to God to remove the evil; you must find out why it is there, and what lesson it has for you. It is of no avail to fret and fume and chafe at the chains which bind you; you must know why and how you are bound. Therefore, reader, you must get outside yourself, and must begin to examine and understand yourself.” ~James Allen

Permanent Happiness

I’m not sure Mr. Allen is correct in saying it is possible to have permanent happiness. After all, even the happiest of people suffer grief at the loss of a loved one, pain from illness, and so on. So we can’t be happy all of the time, but we can have happiness most of the time. Of course, life isn’t all about happiness. Life is about learning and growing. In order to do that, we have to face some hardships. So happiness shouldn’t really be the primary goal of one seeking spiritual enlightenment.

Secure Prosperity

On this one, I can agree with Allen. One can be financially secure all the time. But I have learned from one very successful business person that financial security isn’t primarily about having huge amounts of money. It is having the knowledge that if some disaster causes you to lose what you have, you have the necessary skills to get it back. With that attitude, you don’t have to be ridiculously greedy to be financially secure. And even spiritual people can have financial security. The well-known Psychic Edgar Casey is reported to have said that he didn’t worry about money. He knew that when he needed it, God would find a way to get it to him. And for him, that seemed to work.

Understanding Evil

Yes, Allen is correct. The secret to a generally happy, prosperous, and peaceful life is understanding evil. He is also correct in saying the solution is not to deny that evil exists, or to acknowledge it’s existence, but simply ignore it. If we ignore gravity, we still have to deal with it. If we pretend gravity doesn’t exist, we don’t start floating away like a weightless balloon. Gravity exists so we have to deal with it. The same is true of evil. Pretending we are in a fantasy land where there is no evil doesn’t help us or anyone else. And it doesn’t stop evil from having an effect on us. As an old saying goes, the devils greatest power lies in making you believe that he doesn’t exist. That makes it so much easier for him to manipulate you.

Mr. Allen also says praying to God to keep the evil away from you isn’t a solution. Again, he is correct. If God was willing to do that, evil would long ago have ceased to exist. Yet as everyone with an actual brain knows, evil is real and very active these days. In fact, evil seems to be getting stronger. That, however, may be due to it being the End Times, which means, among other things, that evil truly will cease to exist sometime soon.

We have to deal with evil as it is, just as we deal with wind, rain, and gravity just as they are. Pretending they are not there doesn’t help. You can deal with rain by using an umbrella. But an umbrella doesn’t help at all with gravity. You have to use the right tools for the specific problem. You start to deal with evil by looking at yourself. Are you truly good, or do you sometimes give in to evil? If you are honest with yourself, you will admit that you have done some evil in your lifetime, even if only of the very minor kind. Understanding evil means understanding yourself. Not that you are evil, but evil works through all of us.

The most important thing is to learn to know the difference between your own divine intuition talking to you, and an emissary of evil doing the same. This is not easy and takes much practice. It helps quite a lot to awaken your spiritual faculties: your spirit and soul. When you awaken them using the light of the spiritual sun, you have available to you a source of absolute good and absolute truth. The soul may sometimes find it difficult to directly communicate with your brain-mind, but it never tells you lies. It is never evil. You have to understand evil and deny it the right to control you. Understanding evil, and avoiding it, is a large part of being a good person.

prosperity, money hoarder

Prosperity can be Good or Evil

“Some, through a prosperity unworthy borne, have been hurled headlong to ruin; to some the power of the sword has been committed, to the end that the good may be tried by discipline, and the bad punished. For while there can be no peace between the righteous and the wicked, neither can the wicked agree among themselves. How should they, when each is at variance with himself, because the vices rend his conscious, and oftentimes they do things which, when they are done, they judge ought not to have been done. Hence it is that this supreme providence brings to pass this notable marvel—that the bad make the bad good. For some, when they see the injustice which they themselves suffer, … return to the ways of virtue.” ~Boethius

Prosperity Unworthy

There is a lot of talk to about manifesting and the law of attraction. It gets posted about regularly on every social media spiritual group. Besides the fact that material prosperity has nothing to do with becoming spiritual, there is a problem with this kind of thinking that is never mentioned by its promoters. The problem is that if you manifest things or money that you haven’t earned, you will be billed for it. And when the bill collector shows up, you may not like the way he choose to collect the debt.

For probably thousands of years, people have looked for ways to get financial and material success without working for it. If it worked long-term, why do we still have so many poor people? It isn’t simple because the overwhelming majority of us can’t get the hang of doing manifesting properly. It is because deep down we know that in Satan’s realm of matter, there are no free rides. What may seem to be free, is simply purchased on credit. Yes, God wants us to do well. But He wants us to work for it also.

Hurled to Ruin

We do see people who have gained wealth they didn’t deserve lose it, or lose something else to pay for it, like their health or the death of a child. Yet many ignore that and look only at the sleazeball who continues to rob people blind all his life and dies wealthy. That person gets the greatest punishment of all. He has given up his immortal soul to the devil and will find after death that it was a great price to pay for some temporary comfort. Continue reading “Prosperity can be Good or Evil”
