God Manifests Himself and Man in Spirit Form

“God manifests Himself according to His eternal Will, in His eternal wisdom of the noble Virgin, in the Element, which in Paradise stands in the Sharpness of the divine Virtue [or power]. And the Fiat created Man out of the Element in Paradise, for it attracted to it out of he quintessence of the Sun,Stars, and Elements in Paradise, … He created Man in the Image of God (that is, in the similitude of God) and breathed into him the element of the Body (which was nothing else but paradisaical Virtue); … and there Man became a living Soul, and the Image of God in Paradise.

“And the wisdom of God, the pleasant Virgin, discovered herself in him, and with the discovery opened Adam’s center, to thousands and thousands, which should proceed out of this fountain.” ~Jacob Boehme

God Manifests Himself

I have noticed that a number of people are asking the same odd question on social media lately. Specifically, “Who created God?”. Sometimes adding, “If God created everything, who created God?”. To me, the answer is obvious. God is not a creation in the normal sense. He has no beginning and no end. With no beginning, He cannot be created at all. That would mean that at some point there was no God. Since that cannot be true, God cannot be created.

When Boehme says that God “manifests” Himself, he isn’t saying that God is creating Himself. He can’t create Himself if He already exists. What he is saying is that God is manifesting as a being. Prior to that, He was more like a force, a great thought, with no form. He manifests Himself as Supreme Being, which is not t all some old man sitting on a cloud. The form of God is not at all human.

Created Man

Boehme says that God then created Man out of “the Element in Paradise”. What is that Element? It has been called Grace, Divine Light, or the Breath of God. It is a spiritual thing, so this Man that God created was spirit. Pure spirit, nothing else.

Boehme adds that the energy or force God used to create that Man came out of the “Sun, Stars, and Elements in Paradise”. We could add that it mostly came from the sun. Specifically, the spiritual sun. which is why we advise those who wish to return to that life of spirit turn to the spiritual sun.

Image of God

This is one of the most misunderstood phrases in the Bible. God created man in His Image. But he created man as pure spirit, just as God is pure spirit. So this original Man does not look at all like physical man, and neither does God. It’s more like looking up at the bright sun after being locked in the dark for a time. region of bliss, multi-sensory human, soul birth, Archetype of Man

Archetype of Man and Platonic Recollection

“It is now generally agreed that the Platonic doctrine of anamnesis was derived from the Pythagorean tradition. But with Plato it is no longer a matter of personal recollection of personal lives, but of a kind of ‘impersonal memory’ buried deep in each individual, made up of the memories of the time when the soul was directly contemplating the Ideas. There can be nothing personal in these recollection; … we remember only the Ideas. …

“In this Platonic doctrine of Ideas, Greek philosophy renewed and re-valorised the archaic and universal myth of a fabulous, pleromatic illud tempus1, which man has to remember if he is to know the truth and participate in Being. The primitive, just like Plato in his theory of anamnesis, does not attach importance to personal memory: only the myth, the exemplary History is of importance to him.” ~Mircea Eliade

Platonic Recollection

It is popular today among those interested in spiritual things to seek to know about past lives. They do past life regression to find out who they were in the past. But whether yo believe in reincarnation or not, Plato didn’t concern himself or his students with their personal past, if any, but with man’s past. Specifically, Plato wanted us to look back to the beginning, to archetypal man and woman. Why? Because it was their goal to return to that person. They didn’t want to become an ancestor, whether that ancestor was a king or a turnip farmer, they wanted to go back to the beginning: to the perfection of the archetype.

Adam the Archetype

The tale of Adam and Eve is taken too literally by some and laughed at by others. Both those who take it as historical fact and those who consider it complete fantasy are wrong. The story is essentially true, but as an allegorical tale of the archetype of man rather that a literal story of historical facts. That does not make it fantasy. Allegorical tales are just as real as literal ones, but on a different level of consciousness.

Man Has to Remember

It is not so much that man has to remember the archetype in order to “know the truth and participate in Being,” It is that man has to have a path to follow to awaken, develop his spiritual self, and get to the truth. You hear on social media all the time that “everyone’s path is different,” and we all have “our own path to follow”. Nonsense. Yes, we are all starting in different places, but the destination is the same for all of us.

If you want to fly to London, England, which flight you take will not be the same if you start in New York rather than in Paris, France. But in both cases, if you randomly jump on a plane or train with the hope of someday getting to London, the chances of it happening are slim. You need to travel a path that goes in the right direction and towards the destination. That destination is represented by Adam, the archetype of Man. That destination is spirit, not matter, so programs that help the physical body may be useful, but they won’t put you on the path. The goal is to save the soul, not the body, so only a spiritual being can be the archetype of man. That is what Plato wanted his students to understand.

Descent, Descent into Matter, Tree of Knowledge

Descent of Man and it’s Stages

“The virgin Divine Spirit came down in a circular wave across seven fields, across seven worlds, during the Saturn Period to the mental world and formed mans mental body. During the second period—the solar one—the Spirit came down to the astral world and formed the body of desires. During the third period—the Moon one—the Spirit came down to the ether sphere of the physical world and formed the ether casing of the body. During the fourth period—the Earth one—the Spirit came down to the lower sphere of the physical world and formed the physical body. During the first period, When the Divine Spirit worked and created man in the image of God, man was worriless. During the second period, he began to fall.” ~Beinsa Douno

Descent of Man

We all know of the descent of man. A once great spiritual being “sinned,” causing him to fall to lower levels of existence. Most people see this as happening almost instantly. Man went from being a purely spiritual being to a very material one overnight, they think. This is simply not true.

How accurate Mr. Douno’s description of the stages of descent is, I don’t know. But even if not totally accurate, they are reasonably close. They also serve well on the allegorical level.

Stage One

In this stage, man was a purely spiritual being that dwelt in Heaven and communicated with God regularly. While a creation of God, he also functioned as a co-creator with God. On this level, man had no physical body and therefore did not experience death or disease. He ate nothing but Divine Light.

Stages Two and Three

We see it a little different in Cosolargy. The next level below the spiritual is the psychic, not the mental. The mental level is just below the psychic. The two levels are so close that they are often thought of as one. The body of man that forms on this level is the psychic body. This is the first level not created in God’s image, but in the image (or imagination) of the fallen angels. This body can move through matter as if it doesn’t exist and it is the body used in astral travel. This psychic body is not immortal like the spiritual body. allegorical genesis, wholly naked

Allegorical Genesis with Adam and Eve

“To understand their reasoning, we should need to understand that those who wrote the Nag Hammadi scriptures were probably aware that Genesis was not a historical document but was, in fact, a myth. Today, in more prosaic terms, we would call Adam and Eve the personalizations of two principles. Adam was the personalization of the soul—the emotional, thinking functions of the personality, while Eve was the spirit or pneuma (spiritual consciousness or intuition). …
“It is here that the Gnostics decided that the creator god (Demiurge) could not have been a good god. Firstly, it would appear that he is jealous of Adam. …. The creator god is a jealous god who metes out punishment in short order. … The Gnostics … came to the conclusion that there must be something beyond this evil being.” ~Bernard Simon

Truth in Genesis

Today, most people think that calling something a myth is the same as saying it is a lie. I would, therefore, call Genesis allegory rather than myth. Real myth, as Joseph Campbell taught, is not fairy tales and fantasies, but allegorical ways of revealing truth to those smart enough to read between the lines.

Allegorical Genesis tells a very different tale than that of the literal interpretation. Mr. Simon’s interpretation is one possibility, but I don’t think it is entirely correct to say that Adam represents the soul, and Eve the spirit. On one level, that is probably true, but there is more to it.

On another level, we have the physical body and mind. This was clearly an important part of the story of Adam and Eve since they did not have a physical body of matter until after the Great Fall when they ate the forbidden “fruit”. Second, after the awakening of their intellect, the realized they were naked, and covered themselves with fig leaves. It was not, as most Christians believe today, specifically the genitals that they were ashamed of. It was the entire physical body that appalled them and that is what they were trying to hide. While the Bible doesn’t say so, I’m sure that at some point, they realized the futility and silliness of trying to hide their descent into a material by by hiding that body under the physical body parts of plants. At that point, they would have stopped such silliness.

I think Adam also represented the physical body, with Eve representing the brain-mind or intellect. It was the false knowledge of the intellect that got them into trouble, just as it does to many people today. Of course, this was only true after the fall.
