seven worlds

“THE SPARK HANGS FROM THE FLAME BY THE FINEST THREAD OF FOHAT. IT JOURNEYS THROUGH THE SEVEN WORLDS OR MAYA. IT STOPS IN THE FIRST (kingdom), AND IS A METAL AND A STONE; IT PASSES INTO THE SECOND (kingdom), AND BEHOLD – A PLANT; THE PLANT WHIRLS THROUGH SEVEN FORMS AND BECOMES A SACRED ANIMAL; (the first shadow of the physical man).

“FROM THE COMBINED ATTRIBUTES OF THESE, MANU (man), THE THINKER, IS FORMED.

“WHO FORMS HIM? THE SEVEN LIVES; AND THE ONE LIFE. WHO COMPLETES HIM? THE FIVEFOLD LHA. AND WHO PERFECTS THE LAST BODY? FISH, SIN AND SOMA (the moon).

“The phrase ‘through the seven Worlds of Maya’ refers to the seven globes of the planetary chain and the seven rounds, or the 49 stations of active existence that are before the ‘Spark’ or Monad, at the beginning of every ‘Great Life-Cycle’ or Manvantara. The ‘thread of Fohar’ is the thread of life.

“This relates to the greatest problem of philosophy – the physical an substantial nature of life. …

“’Life, like a dome of many-colored glass, stains the white radiance of Eternity’ – yet it is itself part and parcel of that Eternity, for life alone can understand life.

“What is that ‘Spark’ which ‘hangs from the flame?’ It is JIVA, the MONAD.” ~H. P. Blavatsky (upper case section quoted by her from The Secret Doctrine)

Through the Seven Worlds

While the rising of life through the seven kingdoms described in the quote may be accurate for the physical realm, it is not so for the spiritual. In the spiritual realm, at least since the Great Fall, it moves in the opposite direction. That is not the way it should be, but that is how it is. And frankly, I think if it is so in the spiritual realm, it is probably how it really happens in the physical one also.

The scientists of today generally agree with this description of how life progressed from the nonliving (stone and metal) to plants, animals, and finally man. Nonetheless, they have it wrong, especially when you consider the spiritual side of it.

Think of it this way. If you start out with a big batch of dough and a big batch of cherries, you make seven cherry pies, you cut each pie into quarters, then each quarter into two slices, which came first? Surely not the individual slices. Two slices didn’t become a quarter, four quarters a pie, etc. it happened the other way around. The same with those seven worlds.

What The Seven Worlds Are

Blavatsky has interpreted “the Seven Worlds” to be the seven planets of the solar system known to the ancients. That is one interpretation, but there are others and this allegory may intentionally have several meanings. The seven worlds may refer to the seven chakras or energy centers of the human body (actually, there are more than seven, but that is a story for another time). It might also be a reference to the dimensions of the universe. In any case, you find the number seven used a lot in spiritual and religious writings, so it can be assumed that it is significant, and probably in many ways.

The Spark and the Flame

To the ancients, fire produced light so the words for fire and light were used interchangeably. So the flames, fires, burning bushes, etc. found in spiritual and religious writings are really about light. Not just any light, of course, but Spiritual Light. This is the light often reported in near-death experiences. It is the light that awakens and nourishes the soul. The awakened soul is the spark within us that is a part of that universal flame, the great Light of God. Any real school of spiritual development, much like the mystery schools of the past, teaches students to turn to this light for a true spiritual awakening, which is bringing the soul out of dormancy and developing it into full consciousness. When the soul becomes conscious, it is at a higher level than the consciousness of the brain-mind. So we could also think of the seven worlds as seven levels of consciousness. Physical worlds and the beings in them are at lower levels of consciousness. The higher of the seven worlds are where spiritual beings and spiritual consciousness is found. To reach Oneness with the All, we must raise our consciousness to the highest level. We must rise through all the seven worlds. We need great energy to do that. We get that energy from the Spiritual Sun.
