“We speak the hidden mystical Wisdom of God, which God ordained before the world unto our glory; Which none of the princes of this world knew; for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. But, as it is written; eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man to conceive of things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of man, save the spirit of a man which is in him? Even so, the things of God know no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of this world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Mystical Wisdom of God
The wisdom of the ancients mystics is the wisdom of God, and that is the only true wisdom. True wisdom comes from truth, and only that truth which comes from God is absolute truth. Yet this wisdom, as Boehme notes, is hidden to most. There are many reasons for this, but the two primary ones are simply this; some people would use such knowledge in a way that is harmful to themselves and others ( Think Hitler and Roman Emperor Nero), and the forces of darkness hide it as much as they can from all of us.
Princes of the World
Sadly, we are seeing much of such princes these days, even in countries that are supposed to be democracies. In a representative democracy, the elected officials have taken an oath to uphold the will of the people. That is what makes them representatives. But we are seeing in several countries that they very quickly forget that oath and act like the princes and despots of days gone by. They do what they want to do and what their wealthy supporters want while ignoring the desires and needs of the majority. So it should not be a surprise that such princes know nothing of the mystical wisdom and truth. They wouldn’t know how to use it if they did.
Deep Things of God
But the mystical wisdom reaches deep into the hearts and souls of the spiritual man or woman. It brings them truth, joy, and comfort. They gain knowledge of the worlds beyond the physical. It takes the veil off of the physical realm so that it can be seen for what it really is. Such vision has been sought by many for ages. Those who experience it, and write about it, often see their writings become popular. But this is not something that can be understood by reading someone else’s written description of what it was to them. It is something we should each experience for ourselves. We can do that only if we awaken our spiritual faculties. The best and most reliable way to do that is with the light of the spiritual sun. Then the mystical wisdom comes to us.
Not In the Words of Man
Boehme says this mystical wisdom comes to the awakened spirit and soul through the words of the Holy Ghost, not in the words of man. In other words, the languages of man cannot express the things of spirit except in vague terms easily misunderstood. But the spirit and soul understand the language of symbols that is used to transmit that information within the light coming to us from the spiritual Sun. Or, to be more accurate, the light that comes from God, through the spiritual sun, and then down to us.
This light is also being shared by our sun with all other stars in the physical universe. Those stars, in turn, share it with all planets and beings in their area. This light is slowly changing the fallen universe of matter back into its original spirit form. Those who seek and obtain mystical wisdom can change with it and even help with the change. Those who cling to matter and materialism will parish as that world they love ceases to exist.
When Boehme says the “natural man” doesn’t receive the spiritual things from God, he means the materialistic man, the man who clings to matter as his reality. If we want spiritual growth and mystical wisdom, we have to stop clinging to matter. We don’t have to abandon that world, just stop clinging to it.
