“In their heart, the living book of the living was manifest, the book that was written in the thought and in the mind of the father and, from before the foundation of all, is in that incomprehensible part of him. This is the book that no one found possible to take, since it was reserved for him who will take it and be slain. No one could appear among those who believed in salvation as long as that book had not appeared. … For this reason Jesus appeared. He put on that book. He was nailed to a cross. He affixed the edict of the father to the cross. Oh, such great teaching! He abases himself even unto death, though he is clothed in eternal life. Having divested himself of these perishable rags, he clothed himself in incorruptibility, which no one could possibly take from him. Having entered into the empty territory of fears, he passed before those who were stripped by forgetfulness, being both knowledge and perfection, proclaiming the things that are in the heart of the father, so that he became the wisdom of those who have received instruction. … Since the perfection of all is in the father, it is necessary for all to ascend to him. Therefore, if one has knowledge, he gets what belongs to him and draws it to himself. ” ~Gospel of Truth
The Living Book
The Living Book is not the Bible. It isn’t the Bhagavad Gita or one of the Upanishads. It isn’t the Egyptian Book of the Dead. All of those, and all other written books, scripture or otherwise, are not living books. Once the book is written on paper or scrolls, it becomes set. The living book is not set. It changes with the times. It changes with the people. That is what makes it a living book.
As the quote says, the Living Book is written in the thoughts of God. And just as with us, God’s thoughts are not static. They change, they adjust to new times. This makes the Mind of God the real Living Book, the real source of truth and wisdom. The way for us to gain such wisdom and truth is to link our spiritual minds, or souls, with the Mind of God. First, of course, we have to awaken and develop our spirit and soul. It doesn’t just happen on its own. We have to make an effort to do it. We have to want to read from the Living Book.
He Abases Himself
Jesus was the Messiah. But he didn’t walk around puffing up his chest like a rooster and crowing about it. He had humility. This is an important lesson to all who wish to develop their spiritual selves. Those who puff themselves up in the material world, and seek their treasures and honors their, are highly unlikely to have a spiritual awakening. Yet we see many claiming to be spiritual posting things on social media like, “I don’t need to awaken, I was born awake,” or “I don’t need to study spiritual techniques, I am God.” Such statements reek of hubris and show that these people are not in the least bit spiritual.
Just to be clear, I am not saying that you need to destroy your ego. That is not a wise or spiritual thing to do. The ego allows you to function in the physical realm, so unless you want to become a “sheeple” easily controlled by the government and big business (why do you think they promote such ideas?), keep your ego, but control it.
Clothed in Eternal Life
Those who try to understand scripture with literal interpretations will wonder at this statement. How can one be clothed in eternal life? How can he clothe himself in incorruptibility? Are those garments available at Walmart or Target, or do you have to go to the expensive designer shops?
These “garments” are, of course, not clothing in the literal sense at all. What this means is that Jesus threw off the garments of the material world, namely greed and materialism, and wore instead those of a spiritual person; love, truth, wisdom, and humility. He didn’t seek to control people, but to free them from the control of the temple and the government. He didn’t tell them what was true and wise, but helped them awaken their spiritual faculties so they could learn it for themselves. And you can replace “Jesus” with the name of any other great spiritual master and the story would be the same. They all teach from a place of love and humility with no desire to control.
Empty Territory of Fears
Why is the land of fear empty? It is empty because truth and fear cannot coexist, wisdom and fear cannot coexist, love and fear cannot coexist. So the realm of fear is the realm of spiritual ignorance. That is the empty territory. Gaining access to the Living Book is the solution.
Perfection is In the Father
Yes, perfection is in the Father. Obviously, God must be the epitome of perfection or He wouldn’t be God. That is why we find the Living Book of truth and wisdom in the Father. He is perfect love, wisdom, truth, and knowledge. If we wish to gain some of that for ourselves, we need to become one with God and not look for truth in printed books.
