invisible beings

“It is worthy of notice that, while rejecting as a superstition of Occultism, and religion too, the theory of substantial and invisible beings called Angels, Elementals, etc. – without, or course, having ever looked into the philosophy of these incorporeal entities, owing to observation and discovery, should have unconsciously been forced to adopt and recognize the same ratio of progression and order in the evolution of chemical atoms as occultism does. … Let it be remembered that Fire, Water, and Air, or the ‘elements of primary Creation’ so-called, are not the compound elements they are on Earth, but noumenal homogeneous Elements – the Spirits thereof. Then follow the septenary groups or hosts. Placed on parallel lines in a diagram with atoms, the natures of those beings would be seen to correspond in their downward scale of progression to composite elements in a mathematically identical manner, as to analogy. This refers only to diagrams made by the Occultists; for were the scale of Angelic Beings to be placed on a parallel line with the scale of the chemical atoms of Science – from the hypothetical helium down to uranium – they would of course be found to differ. …

“In esoteric philosophy, every physical particle corresponds to and depends on its higher neumenon – the Being to whose essence it belongs; and above as below, the Spiritual evolves from the Divine, the psycho-mental from the spiritual.” ~H. P. Blavatsky

Invisible Beings

There are even today many who still can’t accept that there could be invisible beings. Yet it is not so strange as it sounds. Even if we look just on the physical level, we find some exotic fish, squid, and other sea creatures that are almost completely transparent. They may not be totally invisible, but they are difficult to see if you are not looking for them.

That last sentence may be key to it more than anything else. There are so many things around us to see, even just on the level of matter, that it is impossible to “see” all of them. That is because seeing a thing involves the mind as much as the eyes. Your eyes may see something, but if your mind doesn’t care, or doesn’t believe in it, it doesn’t register on your conscious mind.

If you are interested in art, but not in flowers, and you walk through a garden that is full of artworks, you might be able to answer many questions about what artworks you saw, but couldn’t answer a single one about the flowers. So to you, the flowers are invisible.

But beyond that type of invisible beings are those that are invisible because they are not material. Spiritual beings cannot be seen by the physical eyes unless they wish to make themselves visible. Even then, you are probably not seeing them, but actually “seeing” an image they have sent into your mind, they may not be their true form.

It is possible to see these being, and in their true form, but not with the eyes of the physical body. Instead we must use the spiritual sight of the soul. The soul must, of course, be awakened first. A sleeping soul sees little.

Without Having Looked

Then there is the problem of the materialists and physical scientists who cannot accept that anything can exist which is not made of matter and physical energy. But as Blavatsky points out, they reject such things without any investigation at all. Perhaps worse, however, are those who do make some superficial effort to investigate, but do it all wrong. It should be obvious that the things of spirit operate under different laws and restrictions than the things of matter. Yet those few scientists who do investigate expect the spiritual to be found using the same tests and instruments that they use for things of matter.

A Different Look

Another type of being that might be included here is the imaginary friends that most of us had when we were small children. I find it curious that few people ever talk about them. We talk about childhood illnesses, adventures, trips, and so on, but few ever discuss their imaginary friends. I think this may be because when we get old enough that adults and older kids think we need to get over the foolishness and start telling us we need to lose the imaginary friends. They are so convincing to impressionable minds that we start hiding them, even from ourselves. But the question I have started to ask since having a spiritual awakening is what if those imaginary friends are not always imaginary? What if some of they are spiritual beings who are teaching us and choose not to be seen by others? We may never know.

Fire, Water, Earth, and Air

Most scientists today laugh at the simplistic concept of the ancients who said that everything was made of those four basics (I have no idea why Blavatsky left earth off of her list). But it isn’t so foolish if you understand that they meant these four “elements” to be types rather than individual things. In other words: air is gasses, water is liquids, earth is solids, and fire is energy. When you understand that, the ancients don’t seem foolish at all.

Blavatsky goes on to say those things that define the elements on the physical plane must have different, but corresponding, “elements” on the spiritual level. So saying that all of creation comes from those four really means that it comes from the four spiritual equivalents. What those spiritual forms are, I don’t know. The important thing is to understand that the spiritual came first and matter came later as a result of the Great Fall. The idea that spirits are generated by the body is completely wrong. So is the theory that the spirit is just a part of the mind. So invisible beings may be made of a spiritual equivalent of fire, air, water, and earth, but we don’t know what those spiritual elements are called.

The Physical Depends on the Spiritual

Blavatsky says that every physical particle depends on its “higher” or spiritual equivalent. Native Americans understood this. They knew that all things had a spirit, even those that we don’t consider to be living. But if they all have a spirit and spirit is always living, then on a level of the invisible beings, all things are living. But only the spiritual lives forever. The physical is temporary.

Quantum physics has found that physical particles can react to each other at a distance. And when something is observed, it changes. While the physical is always being observed by the spiritual. The physical is also reacting to the spiritual. So we can see the invisible beings in another way; by the effect they have on the physical.
