Light Beings or Sons of Light

“This is perhaps the most difficult of all the stanzas to explain. Its language is comprehensible only to him who is thoroughly versed in Eastern allegory and its purposely obscure phraseology. The question will be asked, ‘Do the occultists believe in all these “builders,” “Lipika,” and “Sons of Light” as Entities, or are they merely images?’ To this the answer is given as plainly; ‘After due allowance for the imagery of personal powers, we must admit the existence of these entities, if we would not reject the existence of spiritual humanity. … For the hosts of these Sons of Light … of the first manifested Ray of the UNKNOWN ALL, are the very root of spiritual man.’” ~H. P. Blavatsky

Seven Breaths of the Dragon

To be perfectly honest, I don’t see how Blavatsky gets “Sons of Light” from talk of breaths and dragons. Yet I will accept her interpretation knowing that she is a recognized spiritual master, or at least a master of interpreting the ancient writings. But how many of these Sons of Light (we can assume daughters as well) are their? We see seven, but then it adds that the “circumgyrating breaths” of those seven produce the “Fiery Whirlwind”. Is that saying that the first seven produced more of their kind? That is unclear. Yet I think we can safely say that there are far more than seven Sons and Daughters of Light.

In Cosolargy, we hear of the Beings of Light (or Light Beings) that dwell in spiritual realms. I think we can safely say that this is the same as those Sons of Light that Blavatsky writes about.

Existence of the Light Beings

So we can accept that Light Beings exist in some form. Exactly what they look like or how they function, we can’t say. Blavatsky says we know they are real because we are their hosts. I’m not sure that is true. And if it is true, I’m not sure it proves they are actual beings. Yet, I accept that Light Beings exist partly because many great spiritual writers and prophets mention them. I also think that if we accept the existence of spiritual realms of being, we must logically accept that beings exist on those levels other than just dead humans.

We are told that the fifth dimension is occupied by those Light Beings as well as the beings we call angels. Are angels and Light Beings the same thing? Apparently not since some spiritual writers mention both in the same sentence. Yet they do seem to be similar in nature as well as function.

Spiritual people know that angels are not humans with bird wings on their backs. That is an artistic concept, and not a very creative one. Angels have no need of wings as they have no material bodies. Neither do Light Beings. Angels travel without moving simply by focusing on where they want to be. As spirits, they are actually everywhere at all times. Beings of Light obviously have the same freedom of movement. And both serve God and His Great Plan. Maybe they are just two names for the same beings. Continue reading “Light Beings or Sons of Light”

Prophetic Spirit

Prophetic Spirit and the Resurgence of Spiritual Development

“The prophetic spirit, now inevitable resurging to dethrone its rival, the intellectual law, will necessarily bring with it the New Jerusalem and the return of the gods, thus fulfilling the dreams of mystics in all ages since the destruction of the primeval kingdom This issue may more especially be anticipated at the present time as the spring point enters Aquarius, and the earth becomes subject to the intensified flux of cosmic radiation for which such periods of transition are noted. … Were an ancient Egyptian prophet to be translated into this century, he would already have declared the end to not only be in sight, but almost within reach. … From all over the world are heard reports of strange, inexplicable aerial phenomena which, as Jung pointed out, have always been associated with he end of an era.” ~John Michell

Prophetic Spirit

It’s an unusual choice of terms Michell uses here. He calls the resurgence of spiritual development or mysticism “prophetic Spirit”. I think that is an odd choice because not all spiritual people have the gift of prophecy. Yet one could say that spirituality is about prophecy. More accurately, it is about seeing beyond the physical and the limitations of the temporary worlds of matter to the permanent words of spirit from which they sprang.

It is not so unusual, however, to call the law of materialism intellectual. It is the intellect which is the primary source of knowledge on this level. But since the intellect is limited to knowledge of the physical realm, and can only speculate about higher realms, it is not a reliable source of higher knowledge. That is where that “prophetic spirit” of the soul comes into play.

Dream of Mystics

Not all mystics seek he birth of the “New Jerusalem”. At least they don’t all use that term for it. They speak instead of a Golden Age, an Age of Spirit, or an Age of Peace. The idea remains the same. Mystics and spiritual masters have been working behind the scenes for ages to help bring us to this time of the dawn of that age. Yet there is a danger that they understood.

A certain balance must be maintained on earth, at least for now. So as some of us become more spiritual, more mystical, so will others become more materialistic, more barbarian. This frightens some spiritual students into thinking we have lost. That very fear of losing can make it happen. We must try to avoid such fear and be confident that spirit will win, Light will win. After all, God is on the side of the mystics, even if the materialists think otherwise.

Age of Aquarius

The term “Age of Aquarius” has become a cliché and a clarion call of the New Age. That doesn’t make the truth of it any less real. Wikipedia says this about it:”Traditionally, Aquarius is associated with electricity, computers, flight, democracy, freedom, humanitarianism, idealism, modernization, astrology, nervous disorders, rebellion, nonconformity, philanthropy, veracity, perseverance, humanity, and irresolution.”

I think we can all agree that we are living in the age of electricity and computers. We can hope that it will also be the age of freedom, idealism, modernization, and the return of real democracy. Most spiritual people also think it is an age of spiritual growth and awareness. Let us also hope that will be the case. Better yet, let’s all work to make it happen in accord with God’s Great Plan.

Intensified Radiation

Michell says this will be an age with an “ intensified flux of cosmic radiation.” He is correct. Not just intensified, but different. NASA has sent an unmanned rocket toward the sun to study the radiation coming from it. The question is, what after fifty years of space exploration have they suddenly decided to study the sun?

Surely the sun is so important to life on earth that it should have been one of the first things studied. But they waited until now to do so partly because they now have the necessary technology. But that is only part of the reason. The other part is that scientists have noticed changes in the radiation coming from the sun. Increases in some types of radiation, decreases in others. They don’t understand what is happening. Perhaps they should read the Book of Malachi in the Bible, and the story of the Sun of Righteousness. Some of the answers lie there.

Inexplicable Aerial Phenomena

What we now call UFOs also are a sign that a major change is coming. They are not alien visitors, but a state of being that is midway between matter and spirit. They do not just prophesize major changes, they help make them happen. That prophetic spirit is indeed coming. Be ready or be sorry.

God's work, spiritual poverty brings joy

Spiritual Poverty bringing True Wealth

“Poverty prepares man’s spirit for that union with God to which it aspires. She strips off the clothing which he so often mistakes for himself. … ‘There are,’says Eckhart, ‘four ascending degrees of such spiritual poverty.’

“The same truth: the saving peace of utter detachment from everything but Divine Reality—a detachment which those who have it the citizens of the world. …

“Poverty, then, consists in a breaking down of man’s inveterate habit of trying to rest in, or take seriously, things which are ‘less than God’: which do not possess the character of reality. Such a habit is the most fertile of all causes of ‘world-weariness,’ disillusion, and unrest; faults, or rather spiritual diseases, which the mystics never exhibit.” ~Evelyn Underhill

Spiritual Poverty

Most people think that poverty means having little to eat, no good clothes, and so on. But spiritual poverty does not mean you have to live naked in a cave and eat wild berries and nuts. Doing  that is fine,  if you want to, but you don’t have to in order to live in spiritual poverty.

You can live in a house, wear clothing, and eat regularly. You will still be living in spiritual poverty if you have no attachments to those things. Owning things without being attached to them is a tricky thing. The best way to understand is to look at some examples.

  • If you are ordered to evacuate your house because of an approaching wildfire, but you choose to stay saying, “I’d rather die in the fire than lose my home.” you are not living in spiritual poverty.
  • When you buy a suit or dress because of the name of the designer on the label, you are not living in spiritual poverty.
  • If you eat in an expensive restaurant rather than one that offers simple, yet nutritious meals, you are not living in spiritual poverty.
  • When a fire does burn down your house, and you shrug and say, “I can always get another house,” you are living in spiritual poverty.
  • When you buy clothing that is simple, comfortable, and inexpensive, you are living in spiritual poverty.

Those are a few obvious examples, but the reality is more complicated. It is something few of us can achieve instantly, but we can work on it over time. Continue reading “Spiritual Poverty bringing True Wealth”

Spiritual science for unity

Spiritual Science for Wisdom and Unity

“Through occult science man gains the conviction that from a higher standpoint the weal and woe of the individual is intimately bound up with the weal and woe of the whole world. This is a means by which man comes to see that he is inflicting an injury on the entire world and every being within it, if he does not develop his own powers in the right way. If a man makes his life desolate by losing touch with the unseen, he not only destroys in his inner self something, the decay of which may eventually drive him to despair, but through his weakness he constitutes a hindrance to the evolution of the whole world in which he lives. … He may yield to the belief that there is nothing invisible, …but such an illusion is only possible on the surface of consciousness and not in its depths.” ~Rudolf Steiner

Individual and World of Spiritual Science

We live in an age where the individual is emphasized over that of the community and the world as a whole. We allow individuals to have “rights” that conflict with the good of the planet and the people on it. Worse, we have now decided in some places that corporation also have the rights of individuals including the right to force certain religious beliefs on their employees. It should not take much thought or imagination to realize that the ultimate end of this emphasis on individuality will be total chaos.

The other side of the coin is a world where the individual is of little significance. Everything is for the community, the state. This is the world of the ant colony or bee hive. In some ancient times, we lived like that also. In some ways, we still do which seems to be a paradox with our emphasis on individuality and individual rights.

Importance of Community

As Mr. Steiner notes, the individual must be a part of the community and the world. But it is also true that the community must function for the benefit of each individual, not just a privileged few like the queen bee. This is a difficult and delicate balance to achieve.

Doing that is always an important part of spiritual science. It is only possible for the spiritually awakened. Through a knowledge of spiritual science, which Steiner calls occult science, we know how to behave in a way that benefits us as well as the whole world. As part of that, however, we recognize that there may be times when we have to give up our right in order to do what is best for the whole. At other times, the whole may have to allow some individual rights that don’t benefit the world, but only the individuals that occupy it. Balance is the key.
