Studying Spiritual Growth

One of the very few commentators on old Greek and Latin authors, who have given their dues to the ancients for their mental development, is Thomas Taylor. In his translation of Iamblichus’ ‘Life of Pythagoras,’ we find him remarking as follows: ‘Since Pythagoras, as Iamblichus informs us, was initiated in all the Mysteries of Byblus and Tyre, in the sacred operations of the Syrians, and in the Mysteries of the Phoenicians, and also that he spent two and twenty years in the adyta of temples in Egypt, associated with the magians in Babylon, and was instructed by them in their venerable knowledge, …” H. P. Blavatsky

Some people trying to gain spiritual wisdom believe that they can do so entirely on their own. That they can just read a few books, follow the instructions, and become enlightened. Unfortunately, it just isn’t that easy.

First, those books are usually very incomplete, having only the beginning techniques necessary to get started, but little, if any, of the advanced methods. Also, those books often contain some truths disguised in a way that most people cannot truly understand without knowing the key to its translation.

Second, if the books are any good, they don’t actually teach what is truth, but only how to access that truth.

Many people probably never though about people like Pythagoras, or even Jesus, attending schools and studying, but they did. While there are various reasons for this, it should be obvious that working with a spiritual school or spiritual community is almost always necessary for significant results. One reason is that they can help you understand the intentional ambiguity in ancient spiritual writings. Another is that it is easier to raise your own frequencies when working together with others doing the same. A third major reason is that students can help protect each other from attacks by dark forces while practicing spiritual disciplines and being led off on the wrong path. Another is that others following the same path can help you feel better when materialistic friends frown on your spiritual activities.

In short, those who work with a spiritual school and community are more likely to succeed than those who try it on their own.

I certainly hope they find something definite on flight 370 soon so the Flight 370 channel can become CNN again.

If you haven’t done so yet, you have about two weeks left to file your tax return.

Wow! A wealthy couple with a yacht and two houses and $3 million in various banks were collecting food stamps and other types of welfare in two states because little effort is made to verify the stories people tell when they apply for such benefits. And now that they have been found out, it is believed that they have fled to another country, but authorities don’t know which one.

It’s really hard to believe there are still people denying global warming. Of course, it’s totally understandable with the Koch brothers who make millions by polluting the environment, but not understandable that when they hold out their wallets to politicians, those politicians often will agree with their fantasies.

It’s funny that the reviews of the new movie NOAH are not just a little different, but very different.

McDonald’s is fighting Taco Bell for breakfast customers by offering a free small coffee to each customer for the next two weeks. I haven’t seen any of them yet, but I understand Taco Bell is advertising their new breakfast menu bu using real guys who are names Ronald McDonald.

According to some studies, black dogs are less likely to get adopted from a shelter than other colors. When Massachusetts photographer Fred Levy heard this, he decided to do a series of photos showing the beauty of black dogs.

Fly Away, fly away bird to your native home,
You have leapt free of the cage
Your wings are flung back in the wind of God.
Leave behind the stagnant and marshy waters,
Hurry, hurry, hurry, O bird, to the source of life

Sacrifice to God

The voice of God came out of the Heavens unto His servants even before the days of the Wunis, but in these days, it has come to certain of his Devoted Ones …
‘I am the Voice of God Who is the God of All Men and Ruler of their Hearts. I have many aspects and come differently to all men, I am the God of Many Faces. To you, My servants, I give these words that they may be carried to all men. Obey my commands and I will be your God. I will enlighten you and instruct you, guiding you along the way. …
‘My desire is for love rather than futile sacrifices of burnt offerings, but it should not be a passive love but one expressing service in my cause. A certain knowledge of right and wrong, with free choice of the former, is of greater value in My sight than pointless, ritualistic worship. I deprive no pleasure from the wasteful shedding of blood from bulls and lambs. I gain nothing from the fat of sheep and the flesh of goats. I am the Creator of All, so what can men give that would increase my greatness?‘” ~The Kolbrin Bible

It is not clear to me if this is truly God speaking, or a devil pretending to be God, but it doesn’t matter in this case because what He says is entirely true of the Real God.

The first sentence from the quoted section is an interesting one. It seems to be saying that at one time God spoke to everyone, but now speaks only to a few selected servants. Why would that be? The answer is simple: most of the people have become too materialistic to be able to communicate directly with God. Their frequencies are too low and they don’t know how to correct that situation, if they even want to. Only some true priests know how to raise their vibrations to the level that allows them to communicate with Higher Beings including God Himself.

When God starts talking, He says that he helps those who serve Him. Some don’t like this. They think God should not play favorites, He should treat everybody the same. That is a ridiculously naive idea of God and a ridiculously inflated idea of their own self-importance. God takes care of those who serve Him and essentially ignores those who don’t. It’s that simple, that basic. God wants to enlighten people so they can return to Heaven, but he doesn’t want disobedient, egotistical beings there. Only the perfected go to Heaven and they must serve God to get there.

And finally, we are told that God has no need for blood sacrifice, and that is certainly very true. Any god that demands blood sacrifice, whether animal or human, isn’t God but a demon pretending to be a god. Demons feed on blood, not God. It is self-sacrifice that God wants, not the sacrifice of innocent animals.

You might ask, “What about Jesus? Didn’t God demand that he be sacrificed?” The answer is no, He didn’t. It was not God who wanted Jesus dead, how could that possibly benefit God? The whole idea is insane. It was the false gods who wanted Jesus dead and the attempts of the Romans to cover for His murder that resulted in the ridiculous story that Jesus was killed because God wanted it so.

To avoid fear and negative emotion, the left brain may distract us by multitasking and jumping rapidly from one focus of attention to another, and another, and so on. As life becomes speedier and more complicated, there is more to pay attention to, and we must cover ten times the ground we covered a few years ago. This chronic overload can offer shelter from personal and societal negativity. Speeding, hyperactivity, and a short attention span keep consciousness on the surface, there is no chance for deep diving into emotion.” ~Penney Peirce

Rather than fear and negativity, I would say many people today spend all their time in various activities, usually ones that have little if any benefit, in order to avoid reality. Specifically, a part of them is waking up to the horrors of the materialistic world and they want to hide from that truth. There is also some deep part of them trying to tell them it is time to start dealing with their spiritual side, but their ego is pushing it away in any way it can.

I think that in fifty or a hundred years, when the young people are told of a time when the highest paid and most honored people in society were entertainers who pulled us into fantasy worlds so we could hide from reality, they will find it hard to believe. At least I hope it will happen by then.

The biggest problem with this hiding from reality is that it generally keeps us from developing out spiritual side. We are nearly all guilty of it to some degree, but if we become aware of it, we can work to get better. Here are some indications you are spending too much time on pointless activities in order to hide from reality:

  • You go see a movie every Friday or every Saturday regardless of what movies are playing

  • You watch TV even when there is nothing on that you really want to see

  • You play some sport or game that you don’t really like just to kill some time

  • You hang out in a bar, club, or casino just to kill time, or because your bored.

If you find yourself doing things like that, try changing gradually to replacing some of those activities with more useful ones. Go to movies that are realistic depictions of real life rather than fantasies. Turn off the TV if there really isn’t anything on that you want to do. Instead, take a walk in a park, go sit in a garden, or plant some flowers or veggies in a garden. Talk to your neighbors. And most important of all, spend some time practicing spiritual disciplines and techniques to awaken and grow your spirit and soul.
