Scripture: Amritabindu Upanishad 17

Knowledge is twofold, lower and higher.
Realize the Self; for all else is lower.
Realization is rice; all else is chaff.

There is two kinds of knowledge, intelligence, or information: the lower, or mundane, which is knowledge of the material world, and higher knowledge, Gnosis, which is about the worlds of spirit. And, since the material brain and mind can only have a superficial understanding of spiritual things, awakening our true Self, our spiritual Self is necessary in order to truly understand the spiritual universe. Those who have a great deal of intelligence; knowledge of the material worlds, often think they know all, or at least all they matters, but material knowledge is the tip of the iceburg when compared to the vast knowledge of the spiritual.
