Feeding the Brain

Your brain is probably the most important organ in your body. Legal death is generally considered to occur when the brain stops. Yet few of us consider it when deciding what to eat or drink.
Several books have come out recently telling us how we can keep our brains functioning well into our senior years with mental activities such as having hobbies, working puzzles, reading, or simply socializing and having conversations with other people. All of that is good, but we also need to consider the effects of the foods we eat.
Our brain uses almost thirty percent of the oxygen we breath in. That’s quite a lot for an organ that only makes up maybe one or two percent of our total weight. I’m sure by now we all know from the news stories that when someone gets trapped in a mine or underwater and can’t breath, the first thing that is damaged is the brain. What few people realize is that what you eat affects how well your body takes in and uses oxygen. In short, a diet high in meats (especially red meat) and highly processed foods reduces our ability to take in oxygen while a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables increases it. Organic food is best.  It’s fine to eat junk food occasionally, but it shouldn’t be most of your diet.

Aging and Energy

As we get older, we generally  find that we have less energy to do things.  The other side of that story is that a shortage of energy contributes to our aging.
The cells of our body replace themselves on a regular basis.  Nearly all of them are replaced at least once a year, some more often such as skin cells.  So you would think that physical aging would not occur if every cell of our body is actually quite young, yet we all know it does.  Technically, the skin of an eighty-year-old is really no older than the skin of a thirty-year-old, yet we all know they don’t look or behave the same (older skin looses much of it’s elasticity).  So why the difference if they are both made of cells that are less than a year old?
The reason is because of errors made when the cell is reproduced.  Those errors occur largely because of insufficient life energy.  That lack of energy causes the creation of new cells that are slightly different from the ones they replace, and they are not different in a good way.  The difference between two generations of cells is very small, but after fifteen or twenty generations, it becomes very noticible.
So how do we get the energy to help us generate more perfect cells?  We get it by by going out into nature, taking in sunlight, and exchanging energies with other living things.  You give some of your energy to trees, flowers, animals, etc and ask they to share there energy with you.  While you don’t come out ahead in this energy exchange, you do get fresh, new energy.  The most important part though is taking in sunlight.
One reason why advance spiritual people generally look younger than their actual age is because they do take in energy and exchange energy with other living things.

Gems and Crystals: Lepidolite

Lepidolite is a crystal that is colored pink, lavender, purple or grey.  It is found in Africa, Brazil, Greenland and the United States but the best stones are said to be those found in Auburn, Maine and San Diago, California.   It is known as the stone of serenity.
It encourages us to respond to hostility by trying to find the path of harmony rather than anger and discord.  It helps you to see problems and obstacles as opportunities for growth.  It aids in developing more eloquent speech.  It helps the eye to see beauty in whatever surroundings we find ourselves in, much like artist Georgia O’Keeffe could find something of beauty to paint in the stark desert of New Mexico.   It helps us to understand and overcome the cause of depression and stress.  It is useful for emotional healing, for balance, and for energizing the chakras.  It helps removes blockages of energy flow in the body.  When used together with rose quartz, it helps lovers reconcile their problems.  It helps us to free ourselves from unwanted addictions and bad habits.
Perhaps most important of all, it helps us overcome resistance to change.
For the physical body, lepidolite is said to aid nerve pain, sciatica, neuralgia and joint problems.  It is also helpful in fighting allergies and Alzheimers.  Placing one under the pillow promotes restful sleep.

The Pineal Gland

The pineal gland is a small gland inside of your head.  It is shaped like a pine cone and is the size of a grain of rice.  Modern medicine had considered it an essentially useless vestigal of some larger organ we once had but, over time, lost because we no longer had any use for it.  About a century ago, it was discovered that the pineal creates the hormone melatonin which is sometimes used in fighting sleep problems, but it’s real use is unclear.
Outside of the modern medical community, the pineal is considered important by those learning to develop psychic or spiritual abilities.  It is ofter refered to as “the third eye” as awakening the pineal is believed to give one psychic vision.  René Descartes  called it the “seat of the soul”.   Blavatsky  and other so called new age guru’s have written about the importance of this gland.  It is true that the pineal gland must be fully functional if you want to develop your spiritual facilities.  The way to do this is not a secret.  Even the scientists know that the pineal responds to light.  It is particularly sensitive to sunlight.  So the way to open your third eye is to give it plenty of light, especially natural sunlight.
This does not mean that you should sit outside and stare at the sun.  While that would definately awaken the pineal, it would also seriosly damage your eyesight, possibly causing blindness.  Also, you would be exposing yourself primarily to the light of the material sun which will only make you more materialistic.  A better idea is to just go ourside several times a week and look in the general direction of the sun, but not directly at it for a few minutes.  The best time to do this is at dawn.
