Book Review: Forbidden History

Forbidden History
Edited by J. Douglas Kenyon

This book is actually a collection of articles from the Atlantis Rising magazine.  The articles by several authors are all about evidence of great technology that existed thousands of years ago and evidence or civilizations going back long before the generally accepted five to six thousand years or the conservative scientific establishment.
The book is divided into six sections.  Section one features articles about the flaws in Darwin’s concept of evolution, namely, the believe that evolution is always the result of very gradual change over long periods of time.  These articles cover the growing evidence that sometimes big and dramatic change occurs very rapidly, such as the sudden appearance of flowering plants.
Section two delve more deeply into the growing mountain of proof for drastic, cataclysmic changes that occur periodically.
Section three covers evidence that civilization goes back ten thousand years or more, rather than five thousand.  It includes discussion of ancient civilizations in America and India that may be older than ancient Egypt.
Section four is about the search for physical evidence of Atlantis and other ancient lost civilizations.
Part five covers ancient technology, particularly, Christopher Dunn’s theory on the real function of the Great Pyramid.
Part six is primarily about evidence of visitors from other planets, though it does end with one I found interesting titled “The Physicist as Mystic” which is about how the Field of Quantum Physics is “discovering” the truth behind things that mystics have been saying for many centuries.
One surprise is that, while ruins in Peru are mentioned, the numerous discoveries of Gene Savoy are totally left out.
Overall, I found the book interesting and many of the arguments very convincing.  It has a four-star rating on Amazon.

Keep Moving

When a water buffalo crosses a river with a muddy bottom, it has to keep moving.  If it stops in the middle, it will sink into the mud and get stuck.
Many people do something similar when it comes to spiritual development.  They start, get to a certain point, and stop.  Either because they think they have gone all the way to spiritual enlightenment, or they think they have made enough progress for a while.  In many cases, the middle of the river for spiritual development is psychic development.  Many confuse psychic development with spiritual development, so they thing that they have become spiritual when they have become psychic.  Essentially, the levels of development are physical, mental, psychic and spiritual.  While developing psychic gifts may seem great, there is something better beyond that.  Not that psychic development is wrong, it’s just not the end of the journey and if you stop there too long you are likely to get stuck.
Another problem that has developed in the past few decades is the meditation schools that often lead followers into believing that meditation is all that is needed for spiritual development.  That meditating will produce enlightenment, Christ Consciousness.  But think of people you know who meditate regularly.  Have they really become Christ like?  In most cases, the answer is “no”.  No reputable spiritual school teaches that meditation alone will bring about enlightenment.  It’s just the first step, a tool to help you relax and release stress so you can go forward with spiritual development, not the final destination and not the final method.
Even those few among us who have achieved enlightenment can’t stop.  They have to continue their practices and development techniques every day.  Because now, in the end times, if your not moving forward, your falling behind.

Random Thoughts 9-28-2008

It’s scary when we watch the politicians we are trusting to run our country sitting at a table, the fire alarm goes off, the room is filling with smoke, and they start debating what size bucket to use to fetch water, who should get the bucket, and which party gets to stamp it’s logo on the bucket!

I’m looking forward to the annual convocation in Reno next week.  I’m hoping to convince a few other community members to start contributing some stories and articles for this blog.  I’m also looking forward to getting more details about the planned group trip to Greece next year.

Strange News

The Malaysian pen-tailed tree shrew live on a diet of fermented palm nectar which is like 100 % beer.  Scientists are studying this animal to find out why it doesn’t get drunk with the hope of developing a treatment for alcohol poisoning.

Many faith-based mutual funds that make investments that will not offend the particular faith they appeal to have lost money in recent weeks.  An exception is Islamic funds.  They don’t invest in financial service companies because of opposition to borrowing and lending, so they are doing better than most.

A man in England completed his prison sentence in 2006, but has refused to leave the prison for fear of being deported.  So he remains in jail at a cost of about $60,000 a year to the British taxpayers.

Scripture: Zephaniah, Chapter 1

The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.
I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.
I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;
And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;
And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for him. Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.
In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters’ houses with violence and deceit.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.
Howl, ye inhabitants of Mogadishu, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off. And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.
Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.
The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.
And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

This is clearly another end times prophecy from the Bible.  Those who dress improperly, those who are violent, deceitful and greedy will be punished.  The wealthy who hold material possessions so dear will loose them to others or see them destroyed.  High towers and fenced cities would be the homes or work places of the wealthy and powerful.  The statement “devoured by the fire” goes well with Malachi’s prophecy regarding the Sun of Righteousness that will burn up the wicked.
